Product/Process Engineer

The Timken Company is seeking an Engineer for their Tyger River Plant in Union, South Carolina.  This position is responsible for:

 

Purpose & Scope:

The Product/Process Engineer is responsible for developing and verifying process prints for new orders to comply with Product Engineering’s product drawings.  Drawings are developed using Creo software and ADAPT programs.

  • Provide the plant with support on Lean projects for process improvements and shop floor engineering. 
  • Lead projects in cost reduction, tooling management and tooling cost control.  Overseas tooling supply chain management may be required.
  • Assist the plant in all areas of manufacturing - requires communication & coordination with Product Managers, Plant Management, Operations, Quality Control and Supply Chain.
  • Train other associates in process print calculations and layouts. 
  • Act as an engineering support resource for other plants, when needed.

 

Primary Results Required:

  1. Create Process Print packages for new bearing designs - requires independent evaluation, application, and selection of currently accepted Engineering tool & gauge design practices and sound judgment in consistently manufacturing high-quality adaptations and modifications to existing designs and design of new & improved components for bearing manufacturing.
  2. Detailed knowledge of current Engineering practices and procedures.
  3. Bearing Business Plan support by acceptance of assignments.
  4. Work independently to achieve required results and goals.
  5. Develop designs to improve productivity and enhance the high standards of quality by supporting the needs of the plant.
  6. Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes to reduce manufacturing costs by providing efficient designs for components & assemblies.
  7. Initiate investigations of manufacturing problems that lead to significant cost reductions - use sound judgment, analyze the situation, and propose solutions to Operations management to solve problems and reduce operating costs.
  8. Project Management – build business case, obtain quotes, set-up contractors, train & implement assets into production.

         9. Provide daily engineering support to manufacturing areas - including trouble-shooting tooling, production variances, process print discrepancies, machine issues, etc.

 

Minimum Req’ts: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field

 

Preferred Req’ts: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field, with 1 year of process Engineering experience in bearing manufacturing (or metal working industry) including:
    • Engineering techniques (UniGraphics, SolidWorks, CAD, Creo, Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and SAP).
    • Problem-solving technical problems - product changes for Design for Manufacturability and complex technical problems. 
    • Project management – experience managing technical projects. 
    • Understanding of manufacturing processes in heavy industry: turning, milling, grinding, heat treating, and assembly.
  • or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field, with 2 yrs of process Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
