Scope:  Fabricate, machine, and repair parts for plant production equipment and systems.  Perform progressive machining operations to very close tolerances on complicated parts and tooling.  

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, documents, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining and all other bench-type work.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes and grinders.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut on all machines, including manually controlled machines. 
  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining or grinding, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using calipers, micrometers, indicators, optical comparators, etc.
  • Set up and operate machines for trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.  Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, technical personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.


Minimum Requirements:


Associates Degree in Machine Tool plus 3 years of experience, or equivalent experience in comparable shop conditions and work.

Ability to use complicated drawings.

Ability to perform advanced mathematics and calculations. 

Ability to use complicated measuring tools.

Thorough knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical principles.

Willingness to work any shift and overtime.
