JOB SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for the combined functions of Gauging Technology, Calibration, and Pyrometry to include upkeep, maintenance, and calibration of equipment key to production efficiency. Must maintain compliance and oversight of corporate requirements for gauge equipment and pyrometry. This equipment is critical to Asheboro manufacturing processes, traceability documentation, and required to execute customer orders. The intent is to achieve day-to-day excellence in the execution of these manufacturing business functions while driving continuous improvement to achieve both internal and external customer requirements. The role requires technical competence in manufacturing methods and systems for support of the manufacturing area. Shall be capable of diagnosing and solving manufacturing problems using a structured approach and have knowledge, competence, and facilitate superior customer quality in manufacturing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage calibration, upkeep, repair, and maintenance of plant-wide gauge equipment, calibration, and documentation to protect equipment reliability and accuracy of all data measuring and acquisition devices.
- Responsible for maintaining all heat treatment and forging furnace systems in accordance with corp. std 3.20
- Setup and perform manual and automated calibration and testing process for a wide range of dimensional, torque, and/or electronic gauges in line with company quality procedures and customer expectations.
- Schedule and coordinate performance of all thermal uniformity surveys and system accuracy tests (SAT’s) for both heat treatment and forging furnaces.
- Provide daily problem-solving to ensure Quality product is delivered to internal and external customers.
- Take a lead role in investigation, follow-up, and timely response to gauge equipment, product, and/or manufacturing issues and information requests as related to customer inquiries, reporting, concerns and/or complaints.
- Maintain calibration logs for surveys, SAT's, equipment, and sensors.
- Develop and maintain open communications to effectively resolve Quality and/or manufacturing related issues with local operations and associates, as well as other Timken locations, business units, customers, and suppliers.
- Other responsibilities include: Conduct safety, quality, and ISO audits as assigned, Metrology Lab 5S organization & upkeep, oversee and complete Metrology PM’s 100% on-time, ensure spares availability, and maintain documentation and submission of supplier/customer qualification metrics.
SKILLS:
- Technical support for UMM gauge mechanical and electrical functionality
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes including both mechanical and gaging hands-on experience.
- Capable of using technology and introduction of improved methods to identify and implement solutions to manufacturing, quality, or other problems.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and leverage systemic thinking
- Data management, use database tools, compilation of data for effective understanding and presentation.
- Strong analytical skills to analyze and resolve difficult problems effectively and implement long term solutions
- Knowledge/use of industrial/technological equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with Dimensional/Hand Tools/ULM Calibrations/Torque/Pressure and Flow
- Heat treating practices and procedures; use of thermocouple wires and probes
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION
- HIGH SCHOOL (OR EQUIV) Required
- ASSOCIATES in Manufacturing or Equiv Preferred
MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE
- 5 years Minimum
- 7+ years Preferred
