Purpose of Position

The objective of this position is to serve as a team member responsible for assisting with processing requests within the Warranty and Durability as well as Application Metallurgical Lab areas. This position works closely with other engineers and specialists, Quality, Operations, Engineering, and other project leaders to ensure that tests are executed according to plan. The position also works closely with R&D management to ensure that the laboratory operates efficiently, and its priorities are aligned with the needs of the Business Units and Technology. This position contributes to laboratory leadership and is expected to maintain a safe/clean laboratory environment while interfacing with team members in order to maintain equipment.   

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Work with engineers, project leaders and team members to ensure that laboratory activities are closely aligned with the test schedule and priorities; maximize test equipment utilization.
  2. Perform tests to evaluate material and component performance in accordance with standard procedures and test plans which are aligned with the needs of Operations, Quality, R&D and Product Teams.  
  3. Evaluate products and samples tested. Thorough and accurate documentation of test results.
  4. Ensure adequate and up-to-date documentation of test progress, test samples, tooling inventory, etc.
  5. Develop ideas for continuous improvement of laboratory productivity, reduction of test cycle-time and set-up time; share best practices with other test groups within the company.
  6. Complete 5S audits (as assigned), maintain a clean and orderly laboratory; ensure proper machine maintenance and operation and safe storage of chemicals and fluids.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude/ability and experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
  • Understand application/machine/product drawings, product safety data sheets, and technical/test specifications.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Results Focused.
  • Technical writing and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Computer skills using MS Outlook, Word, and Excel as well as interfacing with machine controls.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and at least 5year's of experience in a mechanical trade or associate degree with at least 3 year’s of experience in a mechanical trade
  • Apprenticeship or other Technical training program in mechanical trade preferred
