Position Summary:  The purpose of this position is to lead the materials management team for the Timken Diamond-Drives business. This position is responsible for all materials management functions across the multi-site operation.  Materials management functions include purchasing, inventory management, warehousing, shipping & receiving, and logistics/transportation.  These functions span the full value creation cycle from raw material through delivery to the customer.

This position reports to the plant manager and is a key contributor to the business planning process and establishing the long-term strategic direction of the business.

Essential Job Duties: 

  1. Lead with respect, ensure safety, drive quality at the source, and continually improve operational performance.
  2. Develop and maintain a high-performing organization through the selection, development, motivation, and leadership of team members.
  3. Manage purchasing activities for direct and indirect materials, and lead supplier performance management activities to support exceptional customer service levels and overall operational efficiency.
  4. Drive sourcing activities in partnership with corporate partners to ensure reliability of supply and reduce overall supply chain costs.
  5. Lead inventory management activities including inventory strategy development, forecasting, and inventory control to reduce working capital requirements, improve inventory flow, and ensure inventory accuracy.
  6. Manage all warehousing activities ensuring effective utilization of space along with accurate and efficient movement of inventory.
  7. Lead all shipping and receiving functions along with logistics/transportation activities driving timeliness, efficiency, and cost effectiveness throughout the process.
  8. Leverage SAP system and integrated applications to optimize business processes through detailed knowledge of the applications and strict management of data integrity.
  9. Continually refine overall materials management function and implement processes, from supplier to customer, that ensure optimal operational efficiency and cost performance.

 

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills with strong leadership skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of MRP and ERP systems.
  • Planning and capacity modeling experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in teaching, coaching, and training.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of lean basics.

 

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor of Arts in Business or Supply Chain required.   Plus, 10+ years’ experience in supply chain. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  APICS certification preferred. 

Language Skills:      

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and complete necessary production forms.  Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and/or customers. 

Mathematical Skills:                                                    

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:                                                        

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables; problem solving ability.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands/arms.   The employee is regularly required to talk, hear at conversational level, and smell.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.  Moving/lifting greater than 50 pounds requires assistance from another employee or a lifting device/hoist.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Required Personal Protective Equipment

Employee is required to wear proper safety eyewear, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes at all times while on the plant floor.
