Purpose of Position
This exciting position is tailored for individuals with a passion for technical growth and a drive to become a prominent process specialist/leader within the industry. As a key member of our team, you will contribute technical expertise, exceptional project management skills, and visionary leadership to propel the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge process solutions for Timken’s esteemed bearing manufacturing plants.
This position exists to improve our manufacturing technology globally by discovering, developing, applying, and implementing, new finishing technologies with the goal to reduce manufacturing cost in the manufacturing plants or to launch new manufacturing systems to make new products.
Essential Responsibilities
- Technical Support - apply technical knowledge in manufacturing processes, such as turning, machining, and grinding. Knowledge of technical problem-solving. Ability to create process diagrams, process modeling, and data analysis skills to make technical recommendations for manufacturing solutions throughout the global manufacturing footprint. Develop strong technical relationships with peers at the global plant sites and focus on knowledge transfer to them.
- Technical Strategy – Assist in technical solution development for deployment of bearing manufacturing processes.
- Capital Projects - support capital investment efforts required for Timken’s business growth initiatives globally. This includes project management and selection of new assets or upgrades in technology to existing equipment. Support the development and implementations of these processes and equipment rebuilds/upgrades/runoff, installations, debug, startups, troubleshooting, as well as defining specifications for new equipment. This also includes creation of Appropriation Requisitions (AR’s) including basic business case analysis, cost tracking/forecasting of spending, and timely completion of projects within budget.
- Product/Process Rationalization - execute analysis to support global product/process rationalization efforts – perform manufacturing process benchmarking analysis and manufacturing cost comparisons across the global manufacturing footprint.
- Project Management - Utilize project management tools for projects including project and resource planning, budget planning, and implement corrective actions when necessary to assure timely completion.
- Continuous Improvement –support continuous improvement projects throughout the global business related to manufacturing processes to increase throughput, im-prove quality, reduce costs, and enhance safety, etc. Provide an environment and process for CI activities within the business by working with the manufacturing plant teams to identify CI solutions, and then follow through with implementation support and evaluation.
- Travel - International and domestic travel is required, averaging 25% of the time.
Technical/Functional Skills Required
- Manufacturing process experience with finishing processes such as grinding and/or milling, hard turning, etc.
- Project leadership skills for capital projects and significant CI initiatives
- Strong analytical and variance analysis/root cause analysis
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturability
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Proven ability to influence internal and external customers
- Strong communication skills/team player
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering and at least 4 years relevant experience with manufacturing processes such as Machining/grinding/Hard Turning or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering and at least 1 years relevant experience with manufacturing processes such as Machining/grinding/Hard Turning.
