Core Function:
The primary responsibility of the heat treat pyrometrist is to set up, conduct, trouble shoot, and analyze data for all calibration activities of the Lebanon heat treatment assets and support equipment used for the heat treatment of product.  This includes periodic calibrations as well as return to services calibration requirement as deemed necessary based on the scope of work performed on the asset.


  • Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations, including but not limited to (lock out tag out, personal protective equipment, fire evacuation protocol, etc.)
  • Operating all heat furnaces (gas & electric) as well as other related support equipment to the scope necessary to perform calibration services.  
  • Operating all field testing & data acquisition instrumentations & systems.  
  • Scheduling & coordinating periodic calibration activities within the heat treat department and/or maintenance through verbal/written communication.  
  • Performing purchase order and certification reviews of all consumable materials (thermocouples, extension wires, connectors, etc) used during calibration testing to ensure compliance to applicable industry specifications.  
  • Preparation of test equipment & furnace test loads.
  • Conducting calibrations of heat treat equipment as prescribed by the calibration interval frequency; this includes but is not limited to System Accuracy Tests, Temperature Uniformity Surveys, Quench transfer timing,, quench oil quality, vacuum leak ups, vacuum gage tests, dew point measurements.  
  • Performing statistical trend analysis & generating all final testing reports for all calibration tests conducted.  
  • Coordinating external calibrations services or independent calibration services as required.  
  • Prepare for retention & maintain all record keeping associated with all calibrations.  
  • Participate as required during internal and external periodic audits.
  • Assist with production needs, specifically wiring and signoff.
  • Perform carbon analysis (bars or OES) for carburized products.
  • Obtain & Maintain Powered Industrial Truck/Fork truck licensing.
  • Train personnel as required.


General Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Above average mathematical and mechanical skills are required.
  • Strong computer skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail along with the ability to multi-task and coordinate work activities to be efficient and productive is required.
  • Strong ability to follow written and prescribed work instructions/procedures and tasks.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret specifications, acceptance criteria, and engineering drawings.
  • Situational/Spatial awareness along with strict adherence to PPE/safety protocols is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of hands, legs, both near/far vision, and hearing test. Must be able to climb ladders and lift up to 35 pounds. Requires extensive periods of walking and standing.
