Timken Gears and Services Philadelphia Gear brand is seeking a Shop Supervisor for the Hueytown, AL service center. The Shop Supervisor directs the shop workflow for the service center, managing the shop, setting goals, scheduling, and organizing and assigning work to produce a quality product.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise, coordinate and schedule the manufacturing, assembly and rebuilding of gearboxes and related products in accordance with the priorities established by the Plant Manager.

  • Plan and coordinate employee skill utilization, hours required, materials and workflow to insure timely delivery of products.

  • Organize and assign work, provide instruction and guidance in assisting employees towards the attainment of manufacturing objectives.  Establish efficient work hours and schedule overtime to meet production requirements as necessary.

  • Identify production problems such as material/labor/outsourcing shortages and implement corrective action. Assist in developing improved procedures utilizing LEAN principles.

  • Provide timely information to other company functions (Customer Service, Sales, Accounting, etc.) so to allow coordination of production schedules and reduce manufacturing costs and meet customer requirements.

  • Maintain an adequate and efficient work force and provide adequate training in accordance with the skill requirements and work levels.

  • Maintain compliance with work rules and provide feedback on job performance.

  • Ensure the use of safety devices and equipment, supervision plant housekeeping and continually being alert for hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.

  • When requested, participate in the specification and justification for new equipment.  Assist in cost analysis and benefits, as needed, to justify equipment purchase.

  • Maintain a process and network for shop inspection and test documentation.

  • Implement appropriate training, procedures and controls to assure the safety practices are developed and followed.  Reduce workplace hazards and OSHA and EPA non-compliance in the facility.

 

Key Attributes:

  • Key attributes include the ability to multi-task, set priorities, meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and the ability to work as part of a team.

  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office software), LEAN experience, strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • Applicant must have a minimum 8 years of manufacturing experience.

  • Prior leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
