Position Overview
The Engineering Manager at Des-Case Corporation is a leadership role responsible for guiding the engineering department to achieve high performance, drive innovation, and align with strategic business goals. This position manages all engineering activities, including product design, development, testing, and quality assurance, ensuring the team operates effectively and contributes to the company’s growth and product excellence. The Engineering Manager will work cross-functionally to address customer needs, improve processes, and deliver industry-leading products.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team, establishing clear goals aligned with company vision and objectives.
- Develop and execute engineering strategies to drive product innovation, cost efficiency, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Sales, Marketing, and Operations to define product requirements and prioritize initiatives.
- Provide leadership on product development, research activities, and the introduction of innovative technologies.
- Oversee the full product development, from concept through launch, managing timelines through compliance with the Stage Gate process to safeguard the integrity of engineering projects.
- Supervise the design and development of new products and enhancements, ensuring compliance with standards, regulations and ensuring quality outcomes.
- Own & drive value engineering cost optimization strategy in product design to support profitability while ensuring products are competitive.
- Implement consistent engineering practices, standards, and documentation to ensure all work is documented according to regulatory and quality frameworks, and engineering changes are properly recorded through change processes.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence in engineering processes, standards, methodologies, tools, and technologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Support operations & manufacturing facilities with engineering, manufacturing, and quality initiatives.
- Function as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance to both the team and the broader organization.
- Conduct performance review, provide training and mentorship to develop engineering talent, promoting professional growth and collaboration within the team.
- Manages outside contractors for internal tools, process, and product support.
- Contribute individually to address skill gaps, ensuring project success when additional expertise is required.
- Encourage global collaboration, promoting efficiencies with the international engineering team.
- Safeguard intellectual property and manage internal and external relationships to drive innovation.
- Partner with customers and internal teams to identify opportunities for product and systems solutions.
- Oversee lab operations & machine maintenance, including prototyping & testing equipment.
- Lead structured problem-solving activities, brainstorming sessions, and design reviews to support and/or enhance products & processes.
- Support distributor and end-user interactions when assistance is required.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a management role.
- Proven history of leading engineering teams to deliver innovative products.
- Strong technical expertise in mechanical engineering, product design, and development processes.
- Exceptional leadership and people skills to inspire and motivate the team.
- Must have the ability and skill to successfully manage change within the department.
- Analytical thinker with a customer-focused approach to achieving results.
- Experience in project management, budgeting, and resource planning.
- Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Effective communication skills to convey complex concepts effectively to various stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Background in working with global or cross-functional teams.
- Experience in ERP software (e.g., JD Edwards)
- Proficiency in PLM software (e.g., Team Center).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
