Position Summary:

Set up and operate conventional, specific purpose, manual milling machines, lathes, and grinders to fabricate metallic parts.

 

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, documents, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining and all other bench-type work.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut on all machines. Machines are manual type.
  • Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining or grinding and adjusts machine controls as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using calipers, micrometers, indicators, optical comparators, etc.
  • Set up and operate machine to verify accuracy of machine settings before making final cuts. Installs machine replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Set up and use Elox machine to remove broken taps, drills, or other damaged tooling.
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, technical personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary to help the plant achieve goals and objectives.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Must be willing to work overtime.
  • Must be willing to work any shift.
  • Associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology.
  • Ability to use complicated drawings.
  • Ability to do advanced mathematics and handbook formulae.
  • Ability to use complicated measuring tools.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical principles.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3 years minimum Machinist experience.

 

This position may require access to United States export controlled technical data (“CTD”) and hardware under the Departments of US State (ITAR) and/or Commerce (EAR).  Eligible candidates are; US Citizens, Green Card holders, Asylees or others eligible to receive US export license authorizations. Candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
