Position Summary:

Heat‑treat products according to standard procedures and metallurgical directives to achieve desired properties, and carburize products per company specifications using infrared controls.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze carburizing samples.
  • Perform quality checks and record results per department operating procedures.
  • Check/monitor heat treat control instruments during days the department is idle, while carburizers are still operating.
  • Set-up and ensure proper operation and production of furnaces, deep freeze, and tempering furnaces - including acting as a “team leader” for functions requiring more than one person such as carburizer change and quenching’s.
  • Determine carburizing time, temperature, and atmosphere control in compliance with company specs and practices.
  • Maintain/monitor furnaces and controls.
  • Is familiar with all general heat-treating practices and uses department records to determine specific practices.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all heat treat equipment.
  • Assist in training team members. 
  • Set-up and operate all heat treat furnaces and equipment – including “straightening” operation.
  • Directs the work of Heat Treat B & C team members.
  • Tools and equipment:
    • Heat treating and carburizing equipment with associated temperature and atmosphere control instruments.
    • Measuring devices, such as micrometers.
    • Hardness testing devices.
    • Microscopes, metallographic sample preparation equipment, necessary records and reports.
    • Responsible for proper care of company tools, observance of safety regulations, and correct reporting of time and production.
    • Responsible for maintaining equipment in good working order and maintaining a neat and orderly work area.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Able to operate all equipment in Heat Treat and knowledge heat treat procedures.
  • Able to make decisions on issues that are complex in nature.
  • Able to perform work that is physically demanding.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Must be willing to work overtime.
  • Must be willing to work any shift.
