We are seeking a Machinist Apprentice to operate the saw in our machine shop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup and Operation:
    • Set up and operate horizontal saws to cut bar stock according to specifications.
    • Read and interpret basic blueprints to ensure accurate cuts.
  • Material Handling:
    • Load and unload materials onto the saw machine.
    • Move material through Kanban stations based on job traveler requirements.
    • Assist machinists in loading and unloading parts from manufacturing machines.
  • Forklift and Crane Operation:
    • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to transport materials to and from storage areas and workstations.
    • Perform daily checks on forklift and crane equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect finished pieces to ensure they meet quality and measurement specifications.
    • Adjust machine settings as necessary to maintain quality.
  • Maintenance:
    • Complete autonomous maintenance of equipment as per daily checklists.
    • Maintain equipment and ensure the work area is always clean and safe.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of production output and any issues encountered.
    • Complete necessary paperwork for inventory and production tracking.
  • Communication:
    • Coordinate with supervisors and other team members to ensure production goals are met.
    • Communicate any issues or suggestions for process improvements.
  • Continues Improvement:
    • Look for ways to improve production efficiency and reduce waste.
    • Assist with continuous improvement projects under the direction of the team leader.
  • Work Environment Maintenance:
    • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience and possesses the following education and competencies.

Education

  • Pre-employment certificate in machinist trade

Competencies

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane
  • Mechanical inclination
  • Aptitude for working with tools, equipment, and metal
  • Reliable track record at previous employment
