We are seeking a Custom Machining Manager to organize, direct, and optimize all production activities within the Custom Machining department. Achieve customer satisfaction, safety, quality, on-time delivery, and profitability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains customer satisfaction though production processes that meets or exceeds expectations. Meeting company profit goals where work is completed in an efficient, cost effective manner that reflects high quality workmanship and expedient delivery while meeting or improving on estimated times and costs.
- Communicates in a timely manner manufacturing and design requirements though job travellers which are clear, concise and effectively reduce the possibility of errors while ensuring work can be completed in a cost effective manner.
- Ensures best value job materials are used to meet company’s manufacturing timeline, estimated cost targets, and minimized WIP cost.
- Manages work flow that meets delivery targets at each operation directly supervised and effectively communicating delivery requirements and, if possible, assisting other factories where work has fallen behind.
- Reviews job costs to ensure job costs are within estimated targets, and making the necessary adjustments on the fly to meet profit targets.
- Reviews and recommends machine repairs; replacements of existing equipment and purchases of new equipment and tools. Project management and accountability for capital projects and lean manufacturing as required.
- Lead, coach, and develop Team Leads and shop staff to create a high-performing, cross-trained, engaged workforce. Own workforce planning, recruitment requests, interviewing, and final hiring decisions for departmental roles.
- Annual and monthly budgeting and strategic planning to meet departmental fiscal targets.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate has over 10 years of experience and possesses the following education and competencies.
Education
Thie ideal candidate may posses any of the following:
- Journeyman Trades person or equivalent with minimum 5+ years of supervisory/managerial experience
- Bachelor’s degree either in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering
- And/or equivalent certification with technical diploma and significant leadership experience.
Competencies
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in precision machining, job shop, or custom manufacturing environment; demonstrated experience in planning, estimating, and cost control.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes (turning, milling, grinders, specialty machines), tooling, and quality systems.
- Proven experience leading CI efforts and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to coach and develop front-line leaders.
- Proficient with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with shop floor data reporting.
