NDT Technician

 

Purpose:  Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections, operate chemical processes such as black oxide and passivation, and conduct quality related checks to ensure parts meet specified quality requirements.

 

This is a 2nd shift position, with regular hours of 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, plus overtime as needed.

Required Skills and Experience (Trainee):

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment, or in a manufacturing trade (including technical school), preferably with metalworking/welding/machining exposure.
  • Willingness to travel during the training phase for required classroom experience.
  • Willingness to uphold strict product and process standards in accordance with aerospace requirements.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience (Technician):

  • Magnetic Particle Inspection Level II certified per NAS410.
  • In addition, Eddy Current, Nital Etch (surface temper etch), and Barkhausen Noise Test experience/certifications are preferred.
  • NDT experience, in any additional techniques, preferred.
  • Quality and/or inspection experience preferred.
  • Laboratory experience with chemicals, titrations, and fluids analysis, preferred.

 

This role may be filled as either a trainee or technician, dependent upon experience, training, and certifications.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Safety - daily participation and involvement in individual and team safety responsibilities such as Behavior Based Safety, housekeeping practices, chemical labeling, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assure that NDT inspections are accurate and performed in accordance with the applicable customer specifications. 
  • Perform diversified magnetic particle, surface temper etch, eddy current, and metallurgical inspection/tests on bearing components according to company specifications, requirements, and standards.
  • Evaluate and properly identify testing indications and potential causes.  Distinguish relevant from non‑relevant indications. 
  • Mix and maintain all types of surface temper etch solutions including acids, bases, and cleaning solutions as required.
  • Maintain NDT test equipment as required by specification, preventive maintenance plan, or customer requirement.
  • Obtain in‑process/finished bearings/parts from designated storage areas.  Obtain sequence sheet and compare/check data against engineering drawing(s) for accuracy.  Perform appropriate NDT tests/inspections on bearings/components, as required.
  • Periodically perform chemical processing operations such as black oxide and passivation.
  • Use various hand tools, fluorescent powder mixture, and acid base solutions/bath to conduct appropriate NDT tests.
