We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can manage risk and build talent at the same time. This role plays a central part in operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and workforce development.

 

The Safety Specialist & Talent Acquisition role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of workplace health and safety programs while also playing a key role in attracting and building talent across the organization. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and promotes a strong culture of safety through training, inspections, and incident prevention initiatives. In parallel, this role supports the full talent acquisition process and employer branding efforts, helping position the organization within local communities and across social media platforms and job boards to meet current and future hiring needs.

 

The Safety Specialist portion of this role partners with leadership, employees, and contractors to minimize risk, maintain a safe working environment, and ensure that both safety and staffing strategies align with business objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Regulatory Compliance
    Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety regulations. Assist in preparing and maintaining required safety documentation, permits, and reports. Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
  • Safety Programs and Training
    Develop, deliver, and track safety training programs such as hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, and emergency response. Support onboarding safety orientation for new employees and contractors. Maintain training records and ensure compliance with required certifications.
  • Incident Management
    Respond to workplace incidents and near misses and lead or support investigations to identify root causes. Prepare incident reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Analyze trends and provide proactive recommendations to reduce risk.
  • Inspections and Audits
    Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and work practices. Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively. Assist with internal and external safety audits.
  • Risk Reduction and Continuous Improvement
    Support hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and ergonomic evaluations. Participate in safety committee activities and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives. Recommend improvements to safety policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Emergency Preparedness
    Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans and drills. Coordinate or support responses to workplace emergencies as needed.
  • Talent Acquisition
    Strengthen and build the talent program to meet the demands of a growing organization. Support employer branding initiatives through regular review and management of job postings across job boards, social media platforms, and other recruiting channels. Contribute to recruiting strategies that attract, engage, and retain top talent.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in both safety and recruitment functions.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA regulations and general safety practices.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct training and work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
