Purpose
Shipping Coordinators support the company customer order release process and shipping operation. They may create and execute shipping processes that ensure safe and timely deliveries. Typical duties may also involve financial and administrative responsibilities, customer service or project management.
Shipping Coordinator Job Responsibilities
- Create order load using analytics and reports to monitor customer orders
- Work closely with Customer service regarding shipping load creation including ability to ship partial orders, potential pull ahead or delays in orders
- Release customer orders
- Create an open orders report
- Monitor for credit holds and risks associated with an order release
- Managing inventory or collaborating with inventory management to ensure adequate stock levels
- Monitoring fluctuations in shipping costs and reporting changes to departmental heads
- Communicating with customers about shipment tracking and general order inquiries
- Resolving problems reported by customers and carriers
- Liaising with employees from finance, sales, customer service, logistics and inventory departments to coordinate shipping, facilitate refunds and ensure proper pricing
Skills And Qualifications
- Strong leadership skills to help ensure on-time deliveries and encourage staff engagement
- Strong organizational skills and problem-solving skills
- 3-5 years in warehouse operations or logistics experience
- Ability to identify and act on shipping and pricing trends by researching market conditions or carrier capacity
- Knowledge of general shipping practices and major carriers, including whether they support sustainability and offer reliability
- Effective communication with employees, customers and vendors
- Proficiency with inventory management systems and shipping interfaces, such as UPS WorldShip
- Knowledge of customs requirements and shipping industry regulations, including those regarding hazardous materials (HAZMAT)
Education
- Require Highschool Diploma or GED
- Prefer an associate or bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or logistics
