Position Summary

The Quality Engineer ensures that automation products, equipment, and manufacturing processes meet quality standards and customer expectations. This role develops and improves quality systems, leads root-cause investigations, supports new product introduction, and collaborates with engineering, production, and suppliers to continuously improve quality within an automation-driven environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality systems in alignment with ISO 9001 or other applicable standards.
  • Create and update documentation including control plans, PFMEAs, work instructions, and audit procedures.
  • Conduct internal audits and support external or customer audits.

 

Production & Process Quality

  • Monitor production processes and automation equipment to ensure consistent output and product reliability.
  • Analyze quality data (scrap, defects, downtime) and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to optimize automated processes for quality and efficiency.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify their long-term effectiveness.

 

Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Lead or support investigations using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D, or DMAIC.
  • Conduct failure analysis on components, assemblies, and automated systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve process capability.

 

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Participate in design reviews, providing manufacturability and quality input for automated assembly lines.
  • Validate new automation equipment, tooling, and inspection systems.
  • Support process capability studies (CPk, PpK) and first article inspections.

 

Supplier Quality

  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers for automation components, electrical systems, and mechanical parts.
  • Perform supplier audits and track supplier performance metrics.
  • Partner with suppliers on quality improvement and issue resolution.

 

Testing & Inspection

  • Develop automated and manual inspection methods.
  • Support programming and optimization of vision systems, sensors, and automated test equipment.
  • Maintain calibration of inspection tools and equipment.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field).
  • 2–5+ years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical controls, sensors, PLC-driven equipment, and automated assembly processes.
  • Proficiency in quality tools (SPC, FMEA, PPAP, MSA, control plans).
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or comparable quality management standards.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret GD&T.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
