The objective of this position is to lead and conduct damage analysis investigations. This role collaborates closely with engineers, specialists, Quality, Operations, Engineering, and project leaders to ensure investigations are completed promptly and aligned with the priorities of the Business Units and Technology teams. Additionally, this position supports laboratory leadership by maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment while coordinating with team members to ensure proper equipment upkeep.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Conduct damage analysis investigations for internal and external customers by collecting samples, assembling background information, developing investigation plans, adjusting scope as needed, scheduling and conducting appropriate tests, and communicating progress with stakeholders.
- Analyze test results by organizing data, integrating research, calculations, and assumptions, and collaborating with subject-matter experts to determine probable root causes using historical and comparative data.
- Collaborate with customers and Timken associates to recommend corrective actions, present investigation find-ings, support solution discussions, and prepare clear, accurate final written reports.
- Lead and assist Materials focused R&D projects. Applying programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to sup-port data‑driven experimental design is a plus.
- Maintain responsibility for critical laboratory equipment, including calibration and preventive maintenance of mi-croscopes, hardness testers, thermocouples, and tensile testing etc.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve laboratory productivity.
- Support laboratory stewardship by completing assigned 5S audits, maintaining a clean and safe work environ-ment, ensuring proper equipment operation, and managing safe storage of chemicals and fluids.
Technical/Functional Skills Required
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of steel metallurgy, other bearing materials, and associated characterization techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant industrial standards.
- Experience with production processes.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and team skills.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++, Matlab is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 2 years of experience.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business or related with 0 to 1 year of experience.
