Timken Aurora Bearing Company is seeking a skilled Tool Room Tech that will manufacture, repair, maintain, and modify jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges, tooling, and precision components to support our production and engineering operations. The ideal candidate will maximize production uptime and continuous improvement by delivering high‑quality precision tooling, performing machine set‑ups, and troubleshooting tooling issues in a shop environment. 

 

Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture, repair, and maintain tooling, fixtures, gauges, jigs, dies and prototype parts to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and work orders; verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Operate manual and CNC machine tools (i.e., lathes, vertical/horizontal mills, surface grinders, EDM, drill presses, tool grinders) to produce and finish parts and tooling.
  • Program and set up CNC machines when required; perform CNC troubleshooting and minor program edits.
  • Perform precision machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, grinding, broaching, reaming, and tapping.
  • Rebuild, sharpen, and maintain cutting tools, dies and fixtures; maintain tool inventories and lubrication schedules.
  • Conduct first article inspections and in-process checks; document inspection results and ensure tooling meets quality standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering to diagnose root causes of tool failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate job documentation, tooling logs, and repair records; assist with BOMs for tooling parts.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, suggest process improvements to reduce lead time and improve tooling life.
  • Follow all safety, housekeeping and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirments:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, associates degree with tooling maching focus preferred. 
  • Two or more years technical or direct tool room experience preferred. 
  • Proficient with manuel milling machines and lathes, hands on experience with CNC set-up and basic programming preferred. 
  • Strong blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerncing (GD&T) skills. 
  • Proficient with precision measuring intruments: micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, and bore gauges. 
  • Ability to use tool grinders, surface grinders, and other bench tools. 
  • Ability to stand and walk 8 or more hours per day. 
  • Forklift and scissor lift experience preferred but will train. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $27.50 -$34.93 per hour and is commensurate on experience and education. This full-time position is eligible to participate in the paid time off plan, 401k, and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision.
