Purpose:
The Materials Manager plays a key/leading conduit role between leadership, sales, marketing, finance and the operations team for achieving excellence in customer service and meeting/exceeding company goals. The purpose of this position is to manage and provide leadership to the Materials department while supporting the production process, demand management/forecasting, materials planning, purchasing, inventory management, logistics, supplier sourcing, selection, and strategic relationship, receiving and logistics for the Los Alamitos Timken plant. Additionally, this position is responsible for achieving excellence in customer on time delivery while optimizing working capital efficiencies and inventory investments.
This position will be heavily involved in the new customer demand forecasting process and ensuring market demand changes are reflected into the future demand plan, as well as communicating any changes in resource needs to plant leadership. This position will manage inventory forecast in alignment with customer demand and financial planning. Provide leadership and assist to the Ops manager in identifying and eliminating waste impacting throughout supply chain management activities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to materials management associates including development of a high performance team, talent and succession plan development, performance management, coaching, mentoring, training, resource/business planning, standards and processes.
- Plays a key role on the plant leadership team for achieving a high performance of customer demand.
- Manage all supply chain activities to facilitate maximum on-time shipments to our customers and minimum past due to ensure maximum market positioning.
- Manage alignment of supply and demand to minimize inventory investments while maximizing customer demands.
- Develop inventory strategy including establishing optimum inventory levels which maximize OTD and reduce costs.
- Drive inventory reduction initiatives to meet/exceed corporate business goals.
- Develop supplier strategies to ensure on time delivery, quality and supply flow of product from suppliers.
- Develop and implement Lean strategy for plant supply chain/materials management to eliminate waste strategies.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that successfully interpret unknown customer demand and integrate them into the materials plan/schedule, while staying within the supply chain capacity.
- Interact with sales and marketing leadership to ensure scheduling commitments can be met for new businesses. Partner with quality to reduce internal failure and develop root cause analysis
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree (desirable disciplines are Business, Engineering, or Industrial Management) and/or in lieu of degree min. 25+ years combination of Production Planning/Forecasting, Purchasing and/or Inventory management experience.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in Manufacturing Management or Leader role
- Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities
- Strong analytical skills with strong computer skills and strong knowledge of MRP or ERP systems
- Forecasting and planning knowledge and experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- CPIM and/or CPSM desirable
Salary Range: $93K - $116K
