The Business Manager of Commercial Services is primarily responsible for coordinating and directing the Commercial Services function across the Timken Power Systems (TPS) group which includes international and US based gear/Philadelphia Gear (PG), motor and bearing repair businesses. This position oversees the enterprise-wide customer service and supply chain functions of the $350MM TPS businesses both via direct and matrix management reports. This position plays a leading role in the pursuit, execution, maintenance, and long-term success of PG’s Military Marine business. The Business Manager of Commercial Services directs the Commercia Services team’s principal objectives to; lead strategic cost and quote generation to support sales efforts at customers; ensure compliance to international, national, industry and defense legal standards; ensure long term cost containment of multi-year Navy contracts; develop on-line tools and SOPs to facilitate fast and accurate pricing/costing by regional CS/SC teams. The Business Manager of Commercial Services participates as a member of the senior leadership team; leads the evaluation, audit and contract execution of strategic supply chain vendors; implements effective analysis of margin performance; audits commercial performance across the enterprise and collaborates with the group President and CFO to ensure the business achieves its financial and service commitment

 

Key responsibilities include the following:

•       Oversee strategic pricing decisions and achieve margin and delivery goals for the industrial aftermarket, military marine program, Drive Train and new product businesses within TPS.

•       Conduct complex negotiations involving multi-year, multi-business unit and multi-product contracts with domestic and international end user customers, primarily directly with senior leadership oftentimes owners/company presidents, of vendors across the global power, infrastructure and defense sectors.

•       Oversee strategic supply chain selection, management, and negotiations for all TPS.

•       Manage tactical supply chain execution on $1B Military Marine projects and programs.

•       Coordinate the activities of the group’s businesses in quoting and winning Drive Train opportunities. Components can include but are not limited to gears, motors, couplings, controls, bearings, and switch gear.

•       Lead customer service and supply chain departments at group HQ, setting priorities according to customer needs and company objectives.

•       Participate in acquisition evaluation and integration as required.

•       Participate in weekly tactical all-company CS and SC operational meetings.

•       Establish and maintain relevant SOPs for the Supply Chain and Customer Service functions and ensure all are kept up to date.

•       Directly oversee the Supply Chain and Customer Service functional heads and their dotted line reports throughout the organization.

•       Develop and maintain strategic pricing tools for use by the various business units.

•       Inculcate and nurture the Philadelphia Gear service and margin model into all of the TPS business units.

•       Consistently seek to improve service performance to our primary TPS HQ customers; the Regional Service Center teams for gear, motor and bearing repair and strategic end users.

•       Report to, partner with and advise the Business group President to lead all front-end activities.

•       Drive synergies across the enterprise taking a global perspective to best combine the diverse engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and testing capabilities within the group.

•       Manage various direct and dotted line personnel and their respective teams located across the TPS network.

•       By combining the diverse capabilities of the TPS electro-mechanical businesses create complete power train solutions for our customers. Manage the complex coordination of the various resources available globally within the group to deliver these contracts 100%TSB.

•       Provide the material and subcontract input for our military marine quoting activity and take a leading role in the creation of offers and submissions to the US Navy, shipyards and or system integrators.

•       Work with TPS leadership to develop negotiation strategies for these complicated and multifaceted opportunities.

•       Lead negotiations with suppliers to leverage group buying power whether this is for the motor, gear or bearing businesses or for any combination thereof.

•       Create new supply chains as necessary to support the developing needs of the TPS businesses. Manage and optimize this over time to create higher margins for TPS and greater customer satisfaction for our customers. 100% TSB, on Time, On Specification, on Budget.

•       Take an active role in the review of potential acquisition targets for the company. Identify potential candidates based on knowledge of key markets and industry sectors.

•       Extensive travel to TPS sites, Suppliers, Customers (particularly Navy sites and shipyards) require

 

Qualifications:

  • Commercial Services Experience (10+ years): Proven experience negotiating with customers and managing long-term customer relationships; deep expertise building cost models and preparing complex, high-value customer quotations.
  • Supply Chain Experience (10+ years): Demonstrated management of suppliers and multi-tier supply chains; experience leading vendor relationships, conducting supplier audits, implementing corrective actions, and producing vendor/KPI performance reporting.
  • Team Leadership Experience (10+ years): Strong leadership background with experience managing and developing teams, including remote or geographically dispersed teams; proven ability to exert influence, align stakeholders, and deliver results without direct authority.
  • Commercial acumen and understanding of the global customer and supplier landscape.
  • High level negotiating skills and the abilities to devise complex negotiating strategies both from the sales and buyer side to the table.
  • Business system proficiency, preferably EPICOR.
  • The ability to manage diverse subject matters and concepts.
  • Electro-mechanical technical systems awareness and experience.
  • Management ability of distributed personnel in a variety of businesses covering several technical disciplines both direct reports and dotted line.
  • Read and utilize complex engineered drawings.
  • Collaborate with DriveTrain leadership combining all TPS offerings.
  • Excellent communications skills and global cultural awareness are key for this role.
  • Mental agility and flexibility required to manage the myriad relationships and networks to which this position is exposed.
  • Experience negotiating +$300MM long term material contracts preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent experience), master’s degree preferred.
