Purpose and Scope of Position

This position exists within Timken’s Research & Development team to provide gauging and inspection solutions for the Company, and to support deployment of the technology into global manufacturing facilities. In addition to these tasks, the individual will also support and maintain currently operational measurement devices used in Timken’s manufacturing facilities.

 

The candidate will be involved in supporting and developing new products, processes, and technology, and will work closely with manufacturing plants and other internal departments, such as Corporate Product Design, Quality, and Process Design and Development teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • GAUGING TECHNOLOGY - Keep abreast of commercial precision measurement devices and their applicability to Timken’s current and future needs
  • MANUFACTURING PLANT SUPPORT - Support global manufacturing facilities during deployment and continuously improve gauging technology
  • MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS - Apply mathematical and statistical skills for analysis in evaluating gauging system performance including Gauge R&R studies
  • NEW PRODUCTS – Develop new gauging and inspection methodologies in support of new product launches
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Lead, plan, control budget, and provide regular project updates on gauging projects being implemented into manufacturing facilities. Ability to formally summarize accomplishments, status, and issues in presentation and report formats.
  • TEAM ENVIRONMENT - Work individually and in a team environment to investigate, evaluate, and select both custom and commercially available gauging solutions to measure Timken products.
  • TRAVEL - Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally to Timken manufacturing facilities and/or supplier locations. Travel is required periodically (occasionally for extended durations) at approximately 25%, dependent upon active projects.

 

Required Functional/Technical Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in manufacturing including capability to generate and interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and inspection equipment.
  • Capability to apply statistics for evaluation of measurement system performance.
  • Knowledge of precision engineering and modern measurement methods including coordinate measuring machines, optical metrology, on-machine gauging methodologies, etc.
  • Knowledge and understating of metrology and quality assurance standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2-6 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • US Citizenship or Green Card
