Purpose of Position

The objective of this position is to provide Process Fluids Laboratory leadership as Timken Corporate point of contact for metal working fluids, frequently acting as liaison between vendors and manufacturing plants. This position works closely with other engineers and specialists, Quality, Operations, Engineering, and project leaders to ensure that tests are developed and executed in a timely manner and in alignment with the needs of the Business Units and Technology. This position contributes to laboratory leadership from an advanced testing perspective to include developing and conducting associated testing, maintaining a safe/clean laboratory environment, and interfacing with team members in order to maintain equipment. 

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Perform tests to evaluate and trouble-shoot the performance of process fluids and lubricants in accordance with the needs of Operations, Quality, R&D, and Product Teams. Perform tests to evaluate product cleanliness to ensure customer requirements are met.
  2. Maintain communication with appropriate plant associates such as Quality and Chemical managers. Maintain relationships with fluid vendors.  Provide Process Fluids training as needed.
  3. Coordinate activity with 3rd party labs and service providers to evaluate new and used oils and grease.
  4. Assume responsibility for critical lab equipment calibrations and preventative maintenance.
  5. Develop ideas for continuous improvement of laboratory productivity, reduction of test cycle-time and set-up time; share best practices with other test groups within the company.
  6. Complete 5S audits (as assigned), maintain a clean and orderly laboratory; ensure proper machine maintenance and operation and safe storage of chemicals and fluids.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, materials, and associated characterization techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant industrial standards
  • Experience with production processes
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in Engineering, Business or related field with 5 to 7 years of experience, or

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field with 3 to 5 years of experience.
