Job Summary

Sets Up and Operates one or more centerless grinding machines to grind product to blueprint specifications.

 

Job Functions

  1. Perform all duties as assigned in a safe and efficient manner with an emphasis on quality.  Follow Company and departmental procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.  Follow all safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition. Report any unusual conditions or situations to Set–Up Person or Supervisor.
  2. Mount and balance grinding and regulating wheel when needed, select and change work blade, thru-feed spacer, shims and various other features.
  3. Calculate workblade height and set, adjust guides, diamond height and truing angles.  Dress wheels, make all necessary lead adjustments.  Set size, set track, set gauges, adjust speeds and feeds.  Install machine guards in place as needed.
  4. Run 1st piece part, make necessary adjustments to attain quality characteristics per print specifications and complete necessary paperwork to attain a set-up approval.
  5. Load parts, cycle machine, check parts at designated intervals and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality characteristics of part per print specifications throughout machining operations.
  6. Box or rack parts.  Demagnetize, wash, if required.  Tag parts, complete all required paperwork including SPC charting.

 

Physical and Visual Activities

Handling, reaching, standing, gripping, fingering, hearing, talking, writing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, far & near visual acuity, depth perception, visual accommodations.

 

Physical Demands;

Operators are normally required to properly handle, carry move, lift and place piece parts weighing from several ounces up to 5 lbs each during the normal operation of the machine.  Operations with piece parts weighing in excess of 5 lbs may also be required on an infrequent basis.  Operators may be required to handle, push, pull lift or carry grinding wheels or machine fixtures weighing up to 50 lbs during the set-up process.  Die carts and other lifting/moving devices are required to be used when possible and it is advised that operators seek assistance maneuvering the larger wheels into place..  Operators are required to handle, push, pull, move and/or lift boxes, racks, pans or bins of parts weighing up to 55 lbs manually or by use of lifting/moving equipment. Operator may be required to move gauging equipment, skids or containers of parts, chips, coolant etc manually, or by the use of powered fork lifts and/or powered pallet lifters/movers (if properly licensed), pallet lifters/movers, two-wheel hand dolly, die cart/lifter, carts etc to and from all parts of the facility.

Normal industrial environment/conditions.  Exposure to collants, oil, and greases

 

Job Qualification Requirements

Knowledge;

General machine aptitude, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers including decimals, conversion of metrics, ability to read and understand blueprints and various gauging equipment.

 

Machine, Tools, Equipment, Software;

Demagnetizer, washer, basic hand tools, gauging equipment, micrometer, refractometer, portable floor crane, two-wheel hand dolly, pallet lifter, die cart/lifter, weigh scale.
