Purpose of Position

Engineering is fundamental to our mission of using our knowledge to make the world’s industries work better.  This position serves a critical function to provide expert knowledge and project management in manufacturing engineering as the lead plant engineer for our Gambrinus Roller and New Philadelphia Bearing plants.  This position reports to the Manager of Quality Advancement and Engineering and works closely with each plant’s respective operations team.


Essential Responsibilities

  1. Plan, coordinate, and execute projects, both standalone and those part of a multi-disciplinary group of projects to improve overall quality, performance, or cost of Timken products.
  2. Support daily operations by providing expert knowledge of manufacturing methods to develop shop floor technical solutions to manufacturing issues (i.e., problem solving techniques and technical assistance on equipment).
  3. Provide oversight and knowledge of Timken engineering systems (NPM/NPR/EDIS/Capital Spend SharePoint/FPDB/PTSDB/GES Portal/Etc.) and function as a liaison with corporate groups (Global Tool Design Engineering, Process Design & Development, Research, etc.).
  4. Utilize and grow own knowledge base to develop project ideas to improve overall quality, performance, or cost of Timken products (innovation to drive improvement in plant performance).
  5. Create drawings and utilize proper engineering techniques to install, modify, or upgrade manufacturing equipment (such as lathes, headers, furnaces, grinders, and inspection equipment). Provide solutions to daily engineering-related problems in the areas of production, quality control, and continuous improvement.


Technical/Functional Skills Required

  • Knowledge of Timken corporate engineering standards and practices
  • Formal Lean / Six Sigma training or certification
  • 3+ years’ engineering project management experience
  • 3+ years’ experience with capital expenditures and planning
  • Direct experience and knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, gauging, controls, and mechanical and electrical design principles
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in CAD/DAM
  • Above-average Microsoft Suite proficiency


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, plus 7 years’ relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, plus 5 years’ relevant experience
